What types of hats do you offer?

Our store specializes in a variety of exquisite historically inspired hats and headpieces, including pieces from different eras such as the Elizabethan, Tudor, and Renaissance periods. Each hat is designed with a focus on authenticity and craftsmanship to ensure a true representation of the historical period.

We also make bespoke custom special occasion hats for events such as weddings, Ascot and Kentucky Derby, fancy dress parties, LARP and cosplay.

How do I determine the right size for my hat?

To find the appropriate size for your historical costume, measure your head circumference with a dressmaker's tape. It is essential to measure your head accurately to ensure a proper fit.  We include a drawstring hat band to adjust sizing, and recommend ordering a size up if you are between sizes. Sizes are as follows:

Percher or one size: 19"-20" circumference

Small: 21.5" - 22"

Medium: 22" - 22.5"

Large: 23"- 23.5"

XLarge: 24" - 24.5"

XXLarge: available only through custom orders at this time

What materials are used in your hats?

We prioritize quality and authenticity in our hats, utilizing a range of materials such as wool, fur felt, silk, velvet, and linen. Each fabric is selected to replicate the textures and appearances of the historical period, ensuring that our costumes not only look authentic but also feel comfortable to wear. 

Our products are made with ethically sourced natural materials, including rabbit fiber felt from food by-products, cruelty-free wool, and ethically sourced straw. We prioritize sustainable practices by utilizing offcuts and remnant fabrics whenever possible in our sewn linen and silk hats.  

Can I return or exchange my hat if it does not fit?

Yes, you can return or exchange your hat if it doesn't fit within 14 days of receiving it, as long as it's unworn and unaltered. Contact us immediately upon receiving your hat to begin the process. Shipping costs are your responsibility unless the return is due to our error.  Please note that custom or bespoke orders are non-returnable.  After 14 days, all sales are generally final unless special circumstances are discussed.

How should I care for my hat?

  • Gentle Handling:

    • Always handle your hat by the brim to avoid misshaping.   
    • Avoid squeezing or folding your hat.

  • Cleaning:

    • Regularly brush off dust and debris with a soft-bristled brush.
    • For stains, spot clean with a damp cloth or a specialized hat cleaner.   
    • Air dry completely away from direct heat.

  • Storage:

    • Store your hat in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.   
    • Consider using a hat box to maintain its shape.
    • Stuff the crown lightly with tissue paper to help it retain its form.

  • Material-Specific Care:

    • Felt: Avoid getting wet. If wet, reshape gently and air dry slowly.
    • Straw: Protect from rain and excessive moisture. 

By following these simple tips, you can help your hat stay in good condition and enjoy it for years to come.

Do you offer custom-made hats?

Yes, we do make a limited number of custom hats several times a year.  Check our blog for dates custom or bespoke hats can be designed.  This is an interactive and collaborative process to design the shape, materials, colors, size and trimming style for the hat.  Typically it takes 6-8 weeks for your hat to be blocked, sewn, trimmed and finished. We only begin work after payment has been received, though we do try to accommodate schedules when possible.

How long does shipping take for my order?

Shipping times may vary based on your location and the shipping method selected at checkout. Typically, off the shelf orders are processed within a 3-5 few business days, and standard shipping can take anywhere from 5 to 10 business days. For more accurate estimates, please refer to our shipping policy.

Bespoke or custom orders take 6-8 weeks after payment is received.  We am happy to provide updates on hat progress upon request.

Do you sell undecorated hats?

We don't sell unfinished hats. My craft includes meticulous finishing, and I only send out complete pieces we're proud of. You can request minimal decoration and customize further, but we don't ship bare hats.
